Gordon River Cruise

Here is our cruise ship, the Lady Jane Franklin, a fast cruising catamaran. It will take us out through MacQuarrie Bay heads into the Southern Ocean, and then back into the Bay, and then up the Gordon River to Heritage Landing in the World Heritage area, where colonial prisoners used to harvest Huon Pine for shipbuilding.

Here we are ripping through Devil's Gate at MacQuarrie Bay heads. This puts us into the Southern Ocean in the "Roaring 40s" wind belt. Fortunately, it is a calm day.

Here is a local picnic spot only available by boat. Users must carry out what they carry in.

We are disembarking onto Heritage Landing colonial source for Huon Pine.

We had an unexpected encounter with a copperhead (I think). Fortunately, we are behind a walled bit of the track.

Tall Huon Pine

We are getting to re-embark. Notice that we are also picking up some kayakers who were dropped off at Heritage Landing a few days earlier.

Well, we're back into MacQuarrie Bay and headed for Sarah Island.
