Gundagai

It was about a 7 hour drive to Melbourne from Canberra. We were going to stay with Missy and Myles for a couple of days before crossing Bass Strait to Tasmania. Our first tourist stop was at Gundagai at a cafe with a statue of the dog and a tucker (food) box mad famous in the poem by Jack Moses who sanitized the poem somewhat from its rather off-colour beginnings in the 1850's. For an interesting discussion of the history of this popular poem from Australian colonial days, see The Dog on the Tuckerbox.
