Mt. Field National Park - Russell Falls

Due to a change in travel arrangements in Launceston, we had a few extra days that we (Linda) hadn't planned. We decided to spend that time in the Hobart region. But rather than stay in the city we decided to take in some of the regional sights by staying about an hour out of Hobart at New Norfolk. Mt Field National Park was also about an hour's drive from New Norfolk, so we did a day trip there. We took two walks there, the first of which was the Russell Falls Walk.

Well, the walk starts gently enough.

Interesting angle of growth

Apparently, glowworms are here, but we couldn't see them because we were there during the daylight.

It was a very gently stroll to get to the foot of Russell Falls.

We decided to hike up to the top of the falls.
We were warned.

It was steeper than it looks in this photo.

Linda decided to have a breather about half way up.

a more scenic view from the top of the falls

a much easier grade on the way back

We have a packed lunch at the picnic area next to the visitor centre before having another walk.
