The Salamanca markets held every Saturday in the CBD of Hobart are the most extensive in Tasmania. Even though it was a kind of drizzly day, wild horses could not have kept us away. There was a lot going on.
These markets started out as a fruit and vegetable market. It has greatly expanded since.
Here is a very small portion of the market.
This is a more representative view.
You can get most anything there. I’m not sure whether or not you have to shear it yourself.
Everyone knows about the healing power of honey.
I bought some boutique sheep’s cheese. It was a very nice soft cheese with no cholesterol (ha ha).
There were numerous entertainment acts to keep the shoppers interested. Here is a living statue colonial.
Thankfully we got to listen to a single bagpiper. I’ve never heard a group sound in tune.
Here is a group playing South American (Peruvian, I think) music. They sounded quite good.
Even the Navy band was there. They were in Hobart to celebrate the Australian Wooden Boat Festival which was on that weekend in Hobart.
